Explore miraculous healings, divine signs, and a lifetime of faith in this spiritual memoir. Find guidance through Mary’s intercession, Eucharistic adoration, prison ministry, pro-life advocacy, and the Rosary’s power—all woven through a Catholic deacon’s journey from childhood to ordination and beyond.
Born in 1936 to Catholic parents in Hannibal, Missouri, Whalen was named after St. Thomas More, canonized the year before his birth—a sign from the start. He grew up with three siblings, learned prayers from his grandmother Katie, attended Catholic schools, and served Mass in Latin. Playing softball, encountering a bully, and receiving a cherished glove from his father shaped his youth.
Whalen details his siblings' paths: Dick excelled academically, worked for General Dynamics, and raised German Shepherds; Brother Pat became a traveling salesman in Southern California. After he was rear-ended, he lost some of his mental math skills, so they later moved to Idaho for retirement.

Deacon Whalen's memoir moved me deeply. His honesty about life's struggles while always seeing God's hand reminds us that faith isn't just for Sundays. The story of his daughter Judy's healing brought me to tears. A beautiful witness to trusting God through every season of life.
Finally, a book that shows how faith and everyday life intersect. Whalen's journey from pharmacist to deacon proves God calls us in unexpected ways. His commitment to Eucharistic Adoration and prison ministry challenged me to deepen my own spiritual life. Highly recommended for anyone discerning their vocation.
I picked this up hoping for inspiration and found a friend in Deacon Tom. His stories about marriage, raising eight children, and balancing career with ministry felt so real. The way he recognizes God's signs in ordinary moments made me more attentive to my own life. A comforting, faith-filled read.
